Firefighters gain control of wildfire near Big Bear

More than 200 firefighters battled the Line Fire, which started near Onyx Peak

According to the US Forest Service, the Line Fire that erupted near Onyx Peak in the San Bernardino National Forest on Saturday night has been contained by firefighters. As of Monday morning, the fire had spread over 172 acres. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

More than 200 firefighters were on the scene battling the wildfire, using aircraft, water drops, and bulldozers to contain the flames. No homes or structures have been damaged, and no injuries have been reported.

The fire comes amidst a dangerous wildfire season in California. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), over 6,500 wildfires have burned nearly 1.7 million acres across the state so far this year. The Line Fire is just one of several dozen wildfires that have erupted in recent days, and it is a reminder of the importance of wildfire preparedness.
